Principal Investigator

Karsten König is C4 Full Professor and Head of the Department of Biophotonics and Laser Technologies at the Saarland University, Germany. He is also founder and president of the company JenLab GmbH. He holds a PhD degree in physics and a habilitation degree in cell biology.

Prof. König published 500+ scientific papers in the field of biophotonics and laser material processing. He pioneered fluorescence lifetime imaging, femtosecond laser nanoprocessing, femtosecond laser transfection, and clinical multiphoton tomography.

jenlab-logoJenLab is the expert for biomedical femtosecond laser technology and the leading company in multiphoton tomography with femtosecond lasers. The company belongs to the top-100 innovators among SME's in Germany. Major clients are research institutions, hospitals, and cosmetic & pharmaceutic companies in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the US.

JenLab was founded in 1999 as a HighTech spin-off company of the University Jena. The headquarter is in Berlin, other facilities are in Jena (production) and Saarbruecken (research). The portfolio includes also two-photon microscopes, laser transfection microscopes, and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopes.
